وتُعد قطر وسيطا رئيسيافي مساعي إنهاء الحرب الأمريكية الإيرانية، و تعرّضت لهجمات إيرانية مكثفة طالت خصوصا بنيتها التحتية للطاقة.

وبعد ستة أشهر على اندلاع الحرب، لا يزال الطرفان المتحاربان أمام طريق مسدود، إذ تواصل إيران إغلاق مضيق هرمز الاستراتيجي، بينما تفرض الولايات المتحدة حصارا مضادا على الموانئ الإيرانية.

والشهر الماضي، زار رئيس الوزراء وزير الخارجية القطري محمد بن عبد الرحمن آل ثاني، طهران في إطار جهود الوساطة، بعدما أعلنت إيران وسلطنة عمان اللتان تطلان على مضيق هرمز الحيوي، مناقشة إنشاء ممر مؤقت للملاحة في المضيق وإزالة الألغام منه.

أشارت بيانات صادرة عن شركة كبلر إلى أن ‌المتوسط المتحرك لعشرة ⁠أيام من حركة الملاحة في مضيق هرمز ⁠بلغ 10 سفن أمس الأحد مقارنة بأكثر من 15 سفينة يوم الجمعة ونحو 13 سفينة يوم السبت . وعبرت سفينتان فقط المضيق يوم السبت، فيما ​مرت ست سفن أمس الأحد، معظمها عبر المسار الإيراني . وقالت القيادة المركزية الأمريكية إن ​قواتها استهدفت يوم السبت ثلاث ناقلات نفط إيرانية، بينها ناقلة ​قبالة جزيرة ‌خرج المركز الرئيسي لتصدير النفط الإيراني، وذلك عقب هجمات شنّها الحرس الثوري الإيراني على سفن حربية أمريكية في المنطقة .

وردا على ذلك، أعلنت بحرية الحرس ‌الثوري يوم السبت أنها استهدفت ثلاث ناقلات نفط كانت تسلك مسارات ‌غير ​مصرح بها في المضيق، إضافة إلى ثلاث سفن أمريكية في مناطق مختلفة . وقالت شركة ماريسكس المتخصصة في المعلومات البحرية في مذكرة إن الناقلات الإيرانية الثلاث هي داوني وستارك 1 ​وكايلو، المعروفة أيضا باسم نوكسن . وأضافت الشركة أن الهجمات التي وقعت يوم السبت تمثل "تصعيدا كبيرا في الصراع البحري".
