Forest Fire in Antalya Aksu Visible from 70 Kilometers Away

The fire, which started at noon, was initially intervened with 3 planes, 9 helicopters, 45 water trucks, 2 work machines and 275 personnel. Spot fires caused by flammable materials spread around by the energy of the fire during hours of work made it difficult to control the flames.

As the weather gets dark, the fight continues with 110 water tankers and water supply vehicles, 4 work machines, 610 technical personnel and fire workers. While the lack of air support made the fight difficult, it was reported that residential areas were evacuated in some regions as a precaution.

FLAMES AND SMOKE WERE VIEWED FROM 70 KILOMETERS AWAY

Flames and smoke reaching the sky from the forest fire that broke out in Aksu, the central district of Antalya, 20 kilometers away from the center, were also seen from Manavgat, 70 kilometers away. The black smoke cloud that formed in the sky at the time of the fire began to turn into red flames as the weather darkened, creating a red cloud in the sky.

As it got dark, the fire was intervened only from land, and the flames turned the night red. The fire was also viewed from different districts of the city.

Efforts are being made to prevent the fire, which started in Karaöz District and spread to Yeşilkaraman District under the influence of the wind, at this point. Settlements threatened by flames were evacuated by teams. Gendarmerie and police teams closed the entrances and exits to dangerous points.

STATEMENT FROM AKSU MAYOR

Aksu Mayor İsa Yaldırım stated that the fire got out of control from time to time and extended to the central Kepez district of Antalya and said, "It extended to the Kepez Kızıllı region, there is no aerial intervention because it is dark, there are houses evacuated in Yeşilkaraman and Karaöz for precautionary purposes."

FIRE THREATENED FACTORIES: CRANES WERE ALSO ACTIVE

The speed at which the flames spread due to the strong north wind makes the teams race against time. Flames suddenly rose near the concrete factory threatened by fire. Teams affiliated with the Regional Directorate of Forestry, while continuing the extinguishing work, also surrounded the factory and other residential areas. In the factory, where flames approached from time to time, cranes tried to prevent the fire from spreading to the factory by holding water.
