Putin proposed discussing Volodin’s candidacy for the post of State Duma Speaker

At a meeting with the leaders of parliamentary parties in the Kremlin, Russian President Vladimir Putin invited those gathered to speak out about the nomination of Vyacheslav Volodin for the post of chairman of the State Duma of the ninth convocation. TASS reports this.

The head of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation faction Gennady Zyuganov, assessing Volodin’s achievements over the past years, wished him to “take the left rudder” when running the new Duma.

Putin responded to this wish with a smile, recalling the ambiguity of the expression: “You know, walking to the left is not always welcome.” In response, Zyuganov also smiled and clarified that he meant something completely different.
