At the sentencing hearing on the 30th, the Incheon District Court's Bucheon Branch Criminal Division 1 (Chief Judge Na Sang-hoon) sentenced A, a female taekwondo gym employee in her 40s indicted on charges of attempted murder and preliminary murder, to four years in prison and ordered her to receive probation for five years after release.

Additionally, B, a female Taekwondo gym director in her 20s who was indicted on the same charge, was sentenced to 7 years in prison and ordered to be on probation for 5 years after release.

The court explained, “Even if it was only an attempt, severe punishment is inevitable for a crime against a person’s life,” and “It appears that the victim suffered considerable physical pain and mental shock, but there is no evidence of any efforts to recover from the damage.”

He then explained the reason for sentencing, saying, "In addition, when the crime using alcohol failed, Mr. B attempted to kill the victim by cutting the back of the neck with a weapon. However, we took into account the fact that the defendants admitted to the crime and the fact that the victim did not want his wife, Mr. A, to be punished."

However, the court did not accept the prosecution's request to attach an electronic location tracking device (electronic anklet) based on the fact that violence against an unspecified number of people did not occur.

Ms. A and others were indicted on charges of attempting to kill Ms. A's husband three times using alcohol mixed with a psychotropic tranquilizer and a weapon at their home in Bucheon, Gyeonggi Province, from April 26 to May 6.

They searched for poisoning methods on the Internet in advance, and when the husband refused to drink the drugged soju, they attempted to deliver it by putting it in the refrigerator or mailbox at home.

Afterwards, Mr. B swung a weapon at him and inflicted a 5-week wound on the back of his neck.

Mr. A's husband, who appeared as a witness at the previous decision hearing, appealed for leniency, saying, "My wife was gaslighted by Mr. B and was unable to stop making unreasonable demands due to threats."

However, the prosecution requested 5 years in prison for Mr. A and 7 years in prison for Mr. B, saying that it was confirmed that Mr. A actively conspired, such as saying that he wanted to be widowed.
