Taipower absorbs 72 billion electricity price difference, benefiting 13 million Taiwanese consumers, more than 90% of whom live in the country

The Legislative Yuan will resume its review of the supplementary budget today (5th). Taipower stated that in response to the continued impact of international geopolitics and the war in the Middle East on fuel costs, Taipower has cooperated with the government to stabilize prices and absorbed more than 75 billion yuan in subsidies for people's electricity consumption this year. Among the people's livelihood users, more than 90%, about 13 million households, are general residences and small businesses whose monthly electricity consumption is less than 700 degrees. Taipower has absorbed about 72 billion yuan in subsidies for these users. The government budget allocation to Taipower is to subsidize the cost of electricity for the entire population. We sincerely request the Legislative Yuan to support this.

Taipower pointed out that the current electricity prices for people's livelihoods seriously deviate from the cost of power supply. Not only are the prices for electricity below 330 kilowatt-hours cheaper than 20 years ago, but the current average electricity price for 90% of people's livelihood users (residential and small shops below 700 kilowatt-hours) is only 1.70 to 2.97 yuan per kilowatt hour, which is far lower than the cost of power generation. The difference is absorbed by Taipower, and the main group that Taipower takes care of by absorbing the price difference is up to 90% of people's livelihood users.

Taipower emphasized that in order to prevent domestic electricity prices from being affected by drastic fluctuations in international energy prices, Taipower absorbs fuel costs to take care of people's livelihood and industry. Therefore, the government budget allocation to Taipower is to share the cost of electricity for all citizens. The governments of other countries, including Germany, France, Italy, South Korea, Japan and Australia, also have mechanisms to subsidize electricity through their budgets. We sincerely request the Legislative Yuan to support the budget allocation and support Taipower to continue to take care of people's livelihood users, while maintaining a sound financial structure and continuing to provide stable power to all people.
