Shooting on Shuiyuan Road in Taipei City: Husband suspected of instigating female gunman to snipe wife due to emotional dispute

An ambush and sniper attack by a female gunman occurred on Shuiyuan Road in Taipei City yesterday. A 50-year-old woman named Zhao was shot and seriously injured by a 47-year-old woman named Yi near her residence. Police investigation revealed that Zhao's husband, Chen Nan, was suspected of instigating Yi Nu to shoot his wife because of a change of relationship and frequent quarrels over financial and children's upbringing issues. After Chen Nan was transferred to the Taipei District Prosecutor's Office for retrial, the prosecutor believed that the criminal suspicion was serious and applied to the court for a detention ban.

Police investigation revealed that Yi Nu, whose household registration is in Keelung, is currently renting an apartment in Zhonghe, New Taipei City, and earns a living by doing odd jobs. Mr. Chen is a project contractor, and his wife, Ms. Zhao, originally assisted her husband in handling work and was responsible for liaison, accounting and other matters. Mr. Chen relied on Ms. Zhao to take care of many of his tasks.

However, after Ms. Zhao returned to China a few days ago, her relationship with Mr. Chen gradually changed. The couple frequently had fierce disputes over financial and children's upbringing issues, and even went to the police station. Zhao Nu later kicked Chen Nan out of the house, and the relationship between the two parties further deteriorated. Chen Nan became resentful and instigated Yi Nu to attack his wife.

The police initially determined that the shooting was not a temporary incident. Chen Nan and Yi Nu suspected that they were unable to grasp the exact whereabouts of Zhao Nu. They had been lying in wait near Zhao Nu's home and workplace for several days beforehand. After understanding her daily routine, they waited for an opportunity to commit the crime. Yesterday, Yi Nu ambushed her with a gun and shot Zhao Nu, causing serious injuries.

The police followed the lead and arrested Yi Nu and brought her to the Zhongzheng Second Branch for questioning earlier. Yi Nu's hands were shaking when she walked into the police station. She staggered up the stairs and remained silent when facing media inquiries. The entire case is under investigation for attempted murder and violation of the Firearms, Ammunition and Knife Control Regulations, and we are continuing to clarify the source of the gun, the division of labor and the complete motive.
