Zheng Chaofang, the candidate for Hsinchu County Mayor of the Democratic Progressive Party and currently the mayor of Zhubei, successfully promoted the renovation of three underground tunnels including Zhonghe Street, Zhongzheng East Road and Sanmin Road during his tenure. He announced that if he becomes the county government in the future, he will promote the successful "Zhubei experience" to the new Zhuxian County.
The underground tunnels that people must pass every day for commuting and going to school are no longer dark and watery security dead spots! Zheng Chaofang, candidate for Hsinchu County Mayor of the Democratic Progressive Party and current Zhubei Mayor, successfully promoted the renovation of three underground tunnels including Zhonghe Street, Zhongzheng East Road and Sanmin Road during his tenure. He announced today that if he takes office in the county in the future, he will extend the successful "Zhubei experience" to the new Zhu County, comprehensively inventory the culverts and underground tunnels in various towns and cities, and create a safe, smooth and urban aesthetic traffic space.
Zheng Chaofang pointed out that the underground tunnel project may seem simple, but in fact it covers multiple aspects such as road surface smoothing, night lighting, drainage and pumping equipment, and traffic routes. When Zhubei improved three underground tunnels in the past, they not only fully upgraded the basic functions, but also simultaneously cleaned up the old walls and lighting designs to get rid of the previous stereotype of being dark and damp. He emphasized that in addition to safety and functionality, future underground tunnel improvement projects across the county will also introduce urban aesthetics to comprehensively enhance the quality of public spaces in Hsinchu County.
Preliminary investigation shows that many underground tunnels in Hsinchu County face different challenges. For example, the Hukou Shanye Road and Dasheng Road underpasses need to pay special attention to drainage and flood prevention during heavy rainfall; the Xinfeng Sanmin South Road and Datong Road underpasses need to be improved due to heavy peak traffic and dense motorcycle traffic; the Zhudong Dongke Road underpass that connects to the Zhuke road network needs to ensure smooth drainage systems at all times.
As for the core thoroughfares leading to the Hsinchu High-Speed Railway Station—the Zhubei Guangming 6th Road and Fuxing Road underground tunnels—they are large arteries with two-way four-lane roads. Among them, Guangming Sixth Road is the facade of national highways and high-speed railways. It is under the jurisdiction of the county government and will be listed as a key environmental beautification and remodeling target in the future.
Since most of the culverts in the county are located along the railway line, and the powers and responsibilities are scattered among the Taiwan Railways, Highway Bureau, county government and local government offices, Zheng Chaofang promised that in the future, the county government will take the initiative to serve as a communication platform and clarify the division of labor. Priority will be given to the Zhuke commuter corridor, the connecting road outside the industrial zone and the school route, and the construction period will be clearly scheduled for sections with high risk of flooding. He emphasized: "Targeting the traffic environment is to protect the way for county residents to go home safely every day!"
Zheng Chaofang announced today that if he takes over the county government in the future, he will comprehensively take stock of the culverts and underground tunnels in each township and city to create a safe, smooth and urban aesthetic traffic space.
The Sanmin Road underpass, an important commuter and school route, was recently improved by the Zhubei City Office.
Zheng Chaofang said that Guangming Underground Road in Zhubei City is the facade of national highways and high-speed railways. It is under the jurisdiction of Zhuxian County Government and will be listed as a key environmental beautification and remodeling target in the future.
