In Lithuania, the “Vytis Code” exercise began to practice mobilization and evacuation

The possible evacuation of the Lithuanian population to Poland in the event of a state of emergency will be practiced at the beginning of the Vytis Arch exercises in Lithuania, reports the Lithuanian television and radio company LRT.

Earlier on Friday, the same company announced the start of an exercise in Lithuania on the actions of the national mobilization system in emergency situations. About 3 thousand civil servants and local government representatives and about 1 thousand volunteers should take part in the exercises. During them, they plan to work out the actions of the state in the event of a deterioration in the security situation and in the event of other emergencies.

“During the exercise to test the mobilization system “Vytis 2026”, the state reserve will be used for the first time, and together with Polish colleagues, procedures for possible evacuation across the border will be worked out,” the statement says.

The publication notes that many foreign partners and allies are expected to arrive in Lithuania, one of the largest will be a delegation from Poland. “We will discuss border crossing procedures and possible evacuation from Lithuania with our Polish colleagues. The Suwalki corridor is extremely important both in a military and logistical sense, and the participation of our Polish colleagues is of great importance,” LRT quotes the head of the Lithuanian National Crisis Management Center, Vilmantas Vitkauskas, as saying.

It is also reported that during these exercises, the Lithuanian state reserve will be used for the first time, in particular food supplies.

According to the portal, mobilization exercises will include scenarios of cyber incidents, disinformation, sabotage and protection of critical infrastructure. On Saturday, ten municipalities will carry out practical evacuation actions, including the evacuation of residents of Vilnius and border municipalities in case of a threat of military invasion, on September 29, preparedness for incidents on energy infrastructure and submarine cables will be checked, and on September 30, according to the scenario, mobilization will be announced.
