Sweetroot grass blooms in the Da Nei section of Zengwen River in Tainan, creating a "September snow" landscape

Sweetroot grass is currently in full bloom in the Tainan section of Zengwen Creek, and the riverside is covered with white snow, which is quite charming. The Mid-Autumn Festival holiday attracts people to visit, and the seasonal "September Snow" can reappear. Local elders and photography experts believe that it is related to the regulatory release of water from the upstream reservoir during previous heavy rains. This year, it has not reached the flood discharge level, and the scouring force has slowed down, thereby preserving the beautiful scenery.

Affected by low-pressure zones, southwesterly winds and peripheral circulation, the Zengwen Reservoir catchment area began to experience significant rainfall in late August and quickly reached the full water level. On the evening of the 24th, the first regulatory water release of the year began. Permanent river drainage channels, anti-siltation tunnels, and spillways were successively launched. Although the operation took three weeks, the maximum discharge volume per second did not exceed 1,000 cubic meters.

According to statistics from the Southern District Water Resources Branch of the Water Resources Department, the maximum volume of water released from Zengwen Reservoir in three weeks was only 950 cubic meters per second, which did not reach the flood discharge level. After starting at 8 a.m. on the 25th of last month, due to the slowdown of rainfall in the catchment area, the operation time was less than one day, and was subsequently reduced.

Zhang Wanxing, vice chairman of the Taiwan Photographers Exchange Association, said that when the flow rate is low, the erosion force is significantly weakened in the Danei River section of the middle reaches, which also retains the sweetroot growth environment seen so far.

Zhang Wanxing mentioned that so far this year, although there has been significant rainfall during the wet season, typhoons have not hit directly, which has reduced the damage to the river banks. The sweetroot grass in Zengwen Creek, Erren Creek and other places has grown very densely, and is as charming as snow. It is worth recommending and has become a popular attraction in recent days.

This year, the September Snow Series activities of the Da Nei District Office have also changed their format for the first time and are conducted in the form of iron horse collection. People ride YouBike and slowly visit famous scenic spots within the jurisdiction to deeply experience the local natural scenery, industrial characteristics and hand-made fun.
