Gumi City, Gyeongbuk Province, promotes comprehensive welfare measures for vulnerable groups in celebration of Chuseok

(Gumi = Yonhap News) Reporter Kim Hyun-tae = Gumi City, Gyeongbuk Province, announced on the 9th that it will promote comprehensive social welfare measures to prevent vulnerable groups from being left out in celebration of Chuseok.

First, the city will pay welfare benefits paid on the 20th and 25th of each month early on the 18th to ease the holiday burden on low-income households.

The target population is 65,800 people, including recipients of basic livelihood benefits, basic pension, and pensions and allowances for the disabled, and the amount of payment is 20.1 billion won.

Holiday consolation money of 50,000 won per person will be paid to 581 residents of social welfare facilities, and 1,080 low-income households will be given consolation money of 100,000 won per household from the Community Chest of Korea.

A safety net will also be activated for vulnerable groups during the holiday season.

The safety of approximately 2,800 vulnerable elderly people is checked in advance, and their well-being is checked two to three times during the holidays or emergency visits are made if necessary.

310 disabled people in need of care maintain an emergency contact system with activity support staff.

Approximately 500 households at risk of isolation monitor signs for more than 24 hours and prepare for emergency situations.

We also continue to share through sponsorships from local companies and organizations.

Local companies such as Intops, KMX, Samsung Electronics' Gumi plant, Gurmiae, and Juwangsan Samgyetang plan to deliver daily necessities worth 140 million won donated for Chuseok to low-income families and small welfare facilities.

The town, village and neighborhood social security council also helps the underprivileged get through the holidays by sharing songpyeon and side dishes and washing blankets.

Gumi Mayor Kim Jang-ho said, “We will do our best to maintain a tight welfare safety net by working together with the public and private sectors so that vulnerable groups can spend the holidays with peace of mind.”
