Prime Minister Han Seong-sook meets with new U.S. Ambassador to Korea Michelle Steele

Ambassador Steele: “I am happy to be appointed to my home country… I will strive to become a stronger alliance.”

(Seoul = Yonhap News) Reporter Lee Sang-hyun = Prime Minister Han Seong-sook met with the new U.S. Ambassador to Korea Michelle Steel on the 23rd and exchanged opinions on the direction of development of the ROK-U.S. alliance.

At a meeting held at the Seoul Government Complex on this day, Prime Minister Han welcomed Ambassador Steele's appointment and evaluated that the two countries are expanding cooperation in areas such as economy and culture beyond security based on the ROK-US alliance, which has been the foundation of Korea's economic development.

At the same time, he asked Ambassador Steel to work hard for the continued development of the relationship between the two countries during his term.

Prime Minister Han also emphasized, "As the two countries expand mutual investment and economic cooperation, we will be able to achieve greater results, especially in high-tech industries such as shipbuilding, semiconductors, and AI (artificial intelligence)."

Ambassador Steele, who was born in Seoul, said, "I am very happy to be appointed as the U.S. ambassador to my home country," and added, "I will strive to make our two countries, which are blood allies, a stronger alliance by strengthening cooperation in various fields such as security and investment."

At the same time, Ambassador Steele added that it is impressive that not only Korea's economic growth, but also the cultural status of Korean food and K-pop has increased significantly compared to when he left Korea.
