Early detection of flu virus in Daegu, one month earlier than last year

The Daegu City Health and Environment Research Institute announced on the 6th that, as a result of testing 23 respiratory infectious disease surveillance samples in the first week of this month, A(H1N1)PDM type 09 influenza virus was confirmed in the samples of two 3-year-old children requested from a pediatric department in Buk-gu on the 2nd.

This is the first flu virus detected this season (September 2026 to August 2027), about a month earlier than the first week in October last year.

A(H1N1)PDM 09 is a type of seasonal flu virus that is commonly prevalent in Korea during the winter.

Influenza is accompanied by symptoms such as sudden fever, headache, muscle pain, fatigue, cough, and sore throat, and is spread through coughing or sneezing.

High-risk groups such as infants, pregnant women, the elderly, and people with chronic diseases have a high risk of complications such as pneumonia, so they should be careful to prevent infection through vaccination.

Shin Sang-hee, director of the Daegu City Health and Environment Research Institute, said, "As the influenza virus was detected earlier than usual, please get vaccinated to prepare for an early outbreak and follow preventive rules such as hand washing and cough etiquette."
