The digital environment has opened up opportunities for improving people's lives and rapid communication, but at the same time it has created previously non-existent threats that can no longer be separated by country. This was stated by the Chairman of the Supreme Court (SC) of Russia Igor Krasnov, speaking at the international scientific and practical conference “Legal Issues of Strengthening the Independence and Authority of the Judicial System” during his visit to Bishkek, a Lenta.ru correspondent reports.
According to him, cybercriminals use the capabilities of artificial intelligence for illegal purposes, criminal trafficking in cryptoassets, the spread of deepfakes and other forms of falsification have appeared. “The evidence environment itself is changing. Problems arise with the reliability and admissibility of virtual evidence and the preservation of the digital chain of trust,” he emphasized.
Judges have to work with the results of using algorithms, electronic traces, and find answers to new questions when there are no ready-made solutions yet, which is why the professional exchange of advanced ideas and approaches in the judicial field is especially important, Krasnov concluded.
As part of his visit, at the invitation of his Kyrgyz colleague Mederbek Satyev, bilateral negotiations were held on the prospects for interaction between judicial systems. An updated cooperation agreement was signed between the highest courts of Russia and Kyrgyzstan, which “will give new impetus to bilateral judicial contacts, and will also become a significant contribution to the development of interstate cooperation in general.”
“How openly we study each other’s experience, preserving the fundamental principles of law in the face of technological change, will largely determine what the court of tomorrow will be like,” Krasnov said.
