The lawyer predicted an increase in the number of cases of Internet harassment in Russia

In the coming years, the number of cases related to Internet stalking will increase in Russia. Lawyer Andrei Grivtsov shared this opinion in a conversation with Lenta.ru.

According to him, this is due to the fact that the Internet is increasingly being introduced into people’s lives, and therefore crimes are increasingly being committed on it. At the same time, the lawyer notes that not every online bullying constitutes a crime, but if this happens, then it breaks down into separate violations - slander, threats, interference with privacy and other crimes.

An example of such a sentence was the court decision regarding 21-year-old resident of the Novgorod region Mikhail Shalimov, who was sentenced to 12 years in a maximum security colony after online bullying of a teenager from Ufa. The young man was found guilty on charges of inducing a minor to suicide, false reports of acts of terrorism, as well as indecent acts and distribution of pornographic materials against minors.
