(Busan = Yonhap News) Reporter Min Young-gyu = Starting next year, in Busan, families caring for children in foster care will receive the same educational support benefits as families with multiple children.

People Power Party member Jong-jin Lee (Buk-gu 3) of the Busan Metropolitan City Council announced on the 12th that the 'Busan Metropolitan Office of Education Ordinance Amendment on Support of Educational Fees for Students from Multiple-Children Families', proposed by the representative, passed the plenary session of the city council.

The revised bill includes children subject to protection by entrusting them to families under Article 15, Paragraph 1, Item 3 of the Child Welfare Act, so that families caring for foster children can also benefit from the educational expenses support that multi-child families receive. It will take effect from January 1 next year.

The multi-child education support point project, jointly promoted by Busan City and the Busan Metropolitan Office of Education, is worth 41.018 billion won to 122,940 households as of 2026, and provides 300,000 won to families with two children and 500,000 won to families with three or more children once a year.

Rep. Lee said, “The support a child receives should not change just because he or she is not related by blood or adoption,” and added, “I will create an environment where any child can receive an education without discrimination, and I will monitor until the end whether the system is working properly in the field.”
