Jeonju Wansan Police Station transfers Mr. A without detention for going under candidate Kim Kwan-young's campaign car.

(Jeonju = Yonhap News) Reporter Kim Moon-kyung = Jeonju Wansan Police Station in Jeollabuk-do announced on the 28th that it had sent Mr. A without detention on charges of going under candidate Kim Kwan-young's campaign car during the June 3 local elections (obstructing freedom of election under the Public Official Election Act).

Mr. A, who worked as a campaign worker for Jeonbuk Governor Lee Won-taek at the time, is accused of interfering with the election campaign by going under candidate Kim's campaign car at an intersection in Hyoja-dong, Wansan-gu, Jeonju-si on the morning of June 1.

Mr. A's body entered the rear wheel of the campaign car, creating a dangerous situation. Only after some persuasion from Candidate Kim's campaign staff did Mr. A come out from under the campaign car.

Regarding the reason why he went under the campaign car, Mr. A said, "I asked (candidate Kim) several times to leave the place (since we had to campaign at that location), but he did not listen."

As controversy arose as photos of the scene spread, the gubernatorial candidate's campaign committee dismissed Mr. A, saying, "(Both sides) were able to sufficiently discuss and coordinate on the campaign site, but the process was not smooth, and an unpleasant incident occurred."

During the police investigation, Mr. A was found to have made a statement to the effect that "I only did it because I was angry and had no intention of interfering with the election campaign."

However, the police judged this explanation difficult to accept, considering that Mr. A was working as a campaign worker.

A police official said, "After consulting with the prosecution, we considered that Mr. A, who was working as an election campaign official, was aware, even if only vaguely, that such actions could interfere with the election, and sent him to the case."
