Tatarstan plans to reconstruct the berth infrastructure and ship passages for the development of river transportation

KAZAN, September 28 – RIA Novosti. To develop river transportation, Tatarstan will reconstruct the berth infrastructure and ship passages for river-sea class vessels and develop a flexible tariff policy in multimodal transportation, said the head of the republic, Rustam Minnikhanov.

“To develop river cargo transportation, I instruct the Ministry of Transport to conduct a complete inventory of the berth infrastructure and develop a plan for its reconstruction, construction and overhaul, to put in order ship passages and berths for river-sea class vessels, ensuring access to foreign markets,” Minnikhanov said in his annual message to the parliament of Tatarstan.

In addition, according to the head of the republic, together with carriers it is necessary to develop a mechanism for a flexible tariff policy in multimodal transport "water - railway - road transport", and also, together with Rosmorrechflot, to work out the possibility of extending the navigation period in the waters of the Volga and Kama basins.

In general, Minnikhanov emphasized that the republic faces serious challenges in terms of developing transport infrastructure. He recalled that this year it is planned to open a new airport terminal in Kazan with a capacity of 5.7 million passengers per year. Next year it is necessary to begin a major overhaul of the runway at Begishevo airport in Nizhnekamsk.
