Support for Israel in the US is at its lowest level in history

According to a survey published by Pew Research in April, 60 percent of US adults have a negative view of Israel. Even among White Evangelicals, who constitute the strongest support base for Israel, positive opinion remained at 65 percent.

In the same survey, more than half of the participants stated that they did not trust Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

An AP-NORC poll conducted in July found that nearly three-in-ten U.S. adults believe Israel is committing genocide in Gaza. Approximately half of the participants said they did not know enough to answer this issue.

NETANYAHU-MAMDANI POLEMIC

The decline in support for Israel is among the developments that cause concern in the country. New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani is cited as an example of the success of people who criticize Israel in the elections. Netanyahu also targeted Mamdani in his speech at the United Nations General Assembly and claimed that some Jews in New York said they no longer felt safe in the city.

Mamdani has previously stated that he is against hatred and discrimination, including antisemitism. Mamdani, who said that he would implement the arrest decision of the International Criminal Court if Netanyahu visits New York, later concluded that the city administration did not have legal authority on this matter.

AMBASSADOR BLAMES THE PEOPLE

While negative public opinion towards Israel is getting stronger in the USA, Ambassador Mike Huckabee listed the reasons for this trend. According to Al Jazeera, Huckabee attributed the decline in support to three factors in an interview with NewsNation on Thursday.

Huckabee; He listed among these reasons disinformation and foreign propaganda, hostility towards those who believe in the existence of God and that he sets the rules of life, and insufficient knowledge of the Bible. “When you put all of this together, I think you want to be angry at Israel and blame it for everything,” he said.

Huckabee also rejected accusations that genocide was committed in Gaza and that Israel is a state based on apartheid.

LOWEST LEVEL IN HISTORY

In Gallup's 2026 survey, 46 percent of Americans stated that they viewed Israel positively. This rate was close to the historical low of 45 percent recorded in the institution's series since 1989. In Pew Research's 2026 survey, the rate of those who had a positive view of Israel remained at 37 percent, while the rate of those who expressed a negative view increased to 60 percent. Thus, a new record was broken.

The change is also seen in the sympathy felt for the parties. In Gallup's measurement since 2001, for the first time, the proportion of people who say they sympathize more with Palestinians exceeds those who sympathize with Israelis: Palestinians 41 percent, Israelis 36 percent.
