Prison escapee resisted the police in Adana: The hand grenade whose pin was pulled was neutralized with tape

The incident took place on September 24 in Atakent District of Yüreğir district. According to the information obtained, the teams of the Extortion Bureau of the Public Order Branch Directorate determined that prison fugitive Mehmet Şirin D. (24), who was wanted for shooting at the workplace and also had a record of fraud and possession of unlicensed weapons, was hiding in a house. Thereupon, an operation was organized at the address.

Noticing the police teams, Mehmet Şirin D. resisted not to surrender by randomly opening fire with a gun out the window. Then he showed the grenade and pulled the pin. Anti-Terrorism, Special Operations, bomb disposal experts and a large number of public order teams were dispatched to the region.

THE HAND GRENADE WAS DUTIFIED WITH THE INTERVENTION OF A BOMB DISPOSAL EXPERT

After approximately an hour of persuasion, the unpinned bomb in Mehmet Şirin D.'s hand was carefully wrapped and fixed with duct tape by the bomb disposal expert while it was on its latch. With this intervention of the teams, the grenade was neutralized.

HE CONFESSED WHO HE BOUGHT THE HAND GRENADE FROM

Mehmet Şirin D., who was detained by the Extortion Bureau teams, admitted that he took the hand grenade from Hasan Ç. (32) during his interrogation at the police station. Thereupon, police teams started an operation to capture Hasan Ç.

During the studies, it was determined that Hasan Ç. was hiding in an apartment in Gürselpaşa District of Seyhan district. The teams carried out an operation at the address and caught Hasan Ç. and detained him. It was learned that Hasan Ç. was sentenced to 13 years in prison for drug use and trafficking.

Mehmet Şirin D. and Hasan Ç., who were referred to the courthouse after their procedures at the police station, were arrested by the court and sent to prison.
