AfD leading candidate Siegmund reiterates his claim to government responsibility in Saxony-Anhalt

Ulrich Siegmund, AfD's leading candidate in Saxony-Anhalt, has confirmed his willingness to take on government responsibility. "This result is a government mandate," he said of his party's clear victory in the state elections. At the federal press conference in Berlin, Siegmund said that the mandate to the AfD "could hardly be clearer."

At the same time, Siegmund named key conditions for an AfD government in Saxony-Anhalt. The most important prerequisite is a stable majority in the state parliament. “Of course, I will run as a candidate for prime minister if it becomes apparent that we have achieved a stable majority,” said Siegmund at a joint press conference with the federal chairmen of the AfD, Alice Weidel and Tino Chrupalla.

With almost 44 percent of the vote, the AfD will have 39 seats in the state parliament in Magdeburg, according to preliminary results. The majority is 42 seats.
