Quentin Deranque affair: eight new suspects arrested

New twist in the Quentin Deranque affair. Seven months after the fatal lynching of the young identity activist on the sidelines of a conference by MEP Rima Hassan at Sciences Po Lyon, eight people close to the “antifa” movement were arrested on Tuesday, we learned from a source close to the investigation, confirming information from Boulevard Voltaire.

According to AFP information, these ultra-left activists are “suspected of having participated in the brawls, in the various violence of the day, but not of having carried out the fatal blows”. The source close to the investigation specifies, for its part, that they will “be referred this afternoon to the investigating judge. » Nine activists from the same movement have already been indicted as part of an open judicial investigation for “murder, participation in a criminal association and aggravated violence”. Contacted, the Lyon public prosecutor's office has so far not responded.

The murder of Quentin Deranque has become one of the most sensitive political-judicial cases in recent months. On February 12, the 23-year-old young man was violently attacked near the IEP in Lyon, where he accompanied several activists from the Némésis collective who had come to attend a LFI parliamentary conference. A confrontation broke out with activists from the anti-fascist movement and in particular from the Young Guard. Quentin Deranque was severely beaten and died shortly after from significant head trauma.
