Airalzh ETS: museums and art for Alzheimer patients in Tuscany and Lombardy

The Italian Alzheimer Research Association is involved in two important local projects that concern the experience of patients within museum spaces. The first sees Tuscany as the protagonist where Airalzh ETS, for three years now, has been developing "Tracce di Memoria", a project that always sees great participation among Alzheimer's patients, family members and caregivers, so much so as to develop great harmony in groups with the sharing of touching messages, thanks to the creation of new bonds. Developed together with the territorial associations, the Mugello Health Society and also thanks to the support of the 8x1000 Valdese funds, this year too, at the end of September, a new cycle of meetings is scheduled to start for small groups who, accompanied by operators, will take part in itineraries in which not only shared observation of the works is foreseen, but also moments of participatory activity within the museum spaces. In doing so, people with dementia, their caregivers and professionals will interact with each other through storytelling, comparison and sensorial exploration in a work based on emotions, imagination, affective memory and shared participation.

Promote the quality of life of people with dementia

It is precisely from the Tuscan experience that "Creative Age - Museums and art for Alzheimer's: wellness and inclusion paths for people with dementia and their caregivers" recently took inspiration for Lombardy. With this new project, Airalzh ETS aims to promote the quality of life of people with dementia to combat the isolation of families through dedicated cultural routes within the museums of the provinces of Bergamo, Brescia and Pavia. The project was carried out with the involvement of the Accademia Carrara Foundation of Bergamo and the patronage of the Lombardy Region. The professionals of the museum and social-health sectors, after an intense period of training and "observation" held by teachers belonging to MTA (Tuscan Museums for Alzheimer's) - thanks to a practical phase at the Accademia Carrara - will begin the various activities aimed at patients and caregivers in the various museums involved at the end of October according to a precise calendar.
