Alfenas opens Casa da Mulher for specialized care and combating violence

In addition to services, the space has a specific room for the LGBTQIA+ public and will house a data observatory on violence. The Secretary of Public Policies for Women, Kátia Goiatá, highlighted that the unit was created to meet a growing demand in the city.

"The Women's House arises with the need to meet this type of demand. Women can either arrive at the Women's House spontaneously or through other equipment that already exists in our city of Alfenas", he stated.

According to the secretary, it is not necessary to present a police report or protective measure to seek assistance on site. She explained that the legal assistance offered by the unit can help victims at all stages of the process.

“They do not necessarily need to come here with this, because our lawyer, who will provide legal assistance, can help in this sense, even accompanying this woman victim of violence to the battalion itself, to file a police report, or to the DEAM itself, the Women’s Police Station,” he said.

Kátia Goiatá stated that the creation of the Women's House had been planned for around two years by the Secretariat of Public Policies for Women.

"This space enables faster, faster care for these women, more humanized, welcoming, with a view of acceptance and not of judgment and much less of condemnation. So, we had this desire to open the doors for some time and we achieved it", he highlighted.

"Exactly. We know that these trans women, they are invisible. So, here our work with this service, we go after it, including with the observatory that we also created, precisely so that, through this data, we can be in a position to make an efficient public policy without wasting public money", he stated.
