In Ankara, retired police officer Ali Şekeroğlu attempted suicide and died during the protest in front of the Constitutional Court.

During the protest organized by retirees in front of the Constitutional Court (AYM) in Ankara, a retired citizen attempted suicide after saying "I am retired. I cannot make ends meet. My daughter-in-law is unemployed, my son-in-law is unemployed."

Retired police officer Ali Şekeroğlu, father of two children, who was hospitalized with serious injuries, could not be saved despite all the interventions.

An eyewitness who was in the area when the retired police officer attempted suicide said, "The situation of the retirees is obvious. Our living standards are decreasing day by day. I don't know the truth, but someone at the protest said that, while talking to someone before attempting suicide, he said, 'I have a grandson, I couldn't give him gold.' Even these words are enough to describe the situation of the retiree and what he went through."

"I GIVE UP ON THIS NOW"

On the other hand, before pulling the trigger, Şekeroğlu was heard saying, "I've given up on this now," in a video recorded on his mobile phone.

"DON'T PUNISH US WITH HUNGER, DON'T OFFEND US"

Şekeroğlu's social media posts before the action in Ankara were also revealed:

- "There will be a press statement in front of the Constitutional Court on Friday, September 25. If you are not there, one person will be missing. Do not say what will happen if I do not come! Strength comes from unity. Let's make our voices heard in order to live and get along as human beings, which is our constitutional right. You hear our cries within ourselves, God. Let those who govern our state and us hear it too. Amen."

- "No one can question our love for our country, but it cannot be punished with hunger either. Do not upset these self-sacrificing people..."

- "Fortunately, I had the honor of being both a Turk and a police officer. We served in the police force under very difficult conditions and in poverty. We live our retirement below the hunger line. Still, I look back and say, I'm glad I became a police officer."
