Anna P. and Piotr M. detained in connection with the Fair Courts campaign - they face up to 10 years in prison

Anna P. and Piotr M. were detained by officers of the Rzeszów branch of the CBA in the Masovian Voivodeship. Then they were transported to Rzeszów, where they heard the charges and gave explanations.

Pleas for Fair Courts

The evidence collected in the case allowed for the issuance and presentation of charges against the detained persons related to causing large-scale property damage to the Polish National Foundation in connection with the implementation and financing of the Just Courts media campaign - said the spokeswoman of the Regional Prosecutor's Office in Rzeszów, Prosecutor Dorota Sokołowska-Mach.

According to investigators' findings, Anna P. and Piotr M. submitted an application to implement the campaign in July 2017, and a month later they signed a contract with the PFN management board to implement the project. Investigators found that the campaign was contrary to the statutory goals of the foundation and consistent with the political goals of PiS and Solidarna Polska.

The suspects face up to 10 years in prison. The prosecutor placed them under police supervision combined with a ban on contacting other suspects and a ban on leaving the country.

When asked whether further arrests were planned, the spokeswoman of the Rzeszów prosecutor's office replied that the proceedings were ongoing. It is possible that someone else may be charged in these proceedings, she said.

She refused to specify what the material damage alleged against Anna P. and Piotr M. was.

Charges against members of the PFN management board

In July, two former members of the PFN management board, Maciej Ś, were charged in the same investigation. and Cezary J. They concern the financing of the Fair Courts campaign and the illegal financing of PiS and Solidarna Polska. Both pleaded not guilty to the crimes charged against them.

An investigation was initiated in June 2024 into the activities of members of the PFN management board in financing the 2017 campaign. The District Prosecutor's Office in Warsaw informed then that the damage caused to the foundation amounted to no less than PLN 8,428,000. zloty. The case was later taken over by the Regional Prosecutor's Office in Rzeszów.

PFN was established in 2016 by 17 State Treasury companies. Its task was to promote Poland's image abroad, the Polish brand and economy.
