Aggravated life imprisonment for Şükrü Ece, who caused the death of Hatice Temel in Antalya

The incident took place on November 10, 2023 in Avdan District. Hatice Temel went to Şükrü Ece's house to visit her school friend who had surgery.

Here, she was sexually assaulted and beaten by Şükrü Ece and died in the hall at the entrance of the house. In the Forensic Medicine Institute report entered into the file, it was stated that the injuries on Temel's body were not fatal on their own, but the effort and stress caused by the assault and sexual assault triggered chronic cardiovascular disease, and that there was a cause-effect relationship between death and the actions he was exposed to.

Şükrü Ece, who was tried at Antalya 1st High Criminal Court for the crime of 'qualified sexual assault', was released after being detained for more than a year. In his opinion on the merits, the prosecutor requested aggravated life imprisonment for the defendant.

DECISION HEARING

Relatives of the victim Hatice Temel and lawyers were present at the 8th hearing of the case. The court sentenced Şükrü Ece to aggravated life imprisonment. The court decided that there was no need to apply the discretionary reduction provisions to the defendant.

HE LISTENED TO THE DECISION WITH TEARS

Durdu Tulum, Hatice Temel's daughter, noted that they were bitterly happy about the decision given by the court panel and said, "Today was not Hatice Temel's hearing; it was my mother's trial, the trial of all women, girls and mothers. Today we came out strong. Justice was served. We are happy and joyful. We would like to thank our lawyers and everyone."

DISCRETIONAL DISCOUNT NOT APPLIED

Beyza Keser, the lawyer of the victim's family, said, "The legal process, which has been going on for 3 years, has concluded today. The court ruled that the defendant be punished with aggravated life imprisonment for the crime of 'qualified sexual assault'. Considering the defendant's attitude during the trial, it did not apply a reduction in discretion. The defendant did not attend the last hearing. Therefore, a decision was made to arrest him along with the verdict and an arrest warrant was issued. We have now received the decision from the first instance court. We will follow the file in case of appeal and appeal."

Stating that they will follow up the file, lawyer Bekir Keser said, "We are proud to have fulfilled our responsibility towards the public and the family. We hope that such events will not happen again."

HE WAS CAUGHT AND ARRESTED AFTER THE DECISION

Şükrü Ece, who was tried without arrest on the grounds that he beat and aggravated sexual assault on Hatice Temel in Antalya and caused her death as a result of the stress she experienced, was sentenced to aggravated life imprisonment. Ece, who did not attend the verdict hearing today, was caught and arrested.
