The long-awaited domestic smartphone move in the Turkish technology ecosystem is being implemented with concrete steps. ASELSAN, the leading power of the defense industry, and communications giant Türk Telekom joined forces for the domestic smartphone project. The domestic device, whose production base is determined as Malatya and whose R&D process is carried out under the umbrella of TTT Innovation, is planned to take its place on the shelves in the first half of 2027.

Malatya Will Be the Production Base of ASELSAN Signed Phone

There is a clear division of labor between two giant institutions in the project. While ASELSAN undertakes the hardware design, engineering architecture and direct production processes; Türk Telekom carries out software optimization, value-added content, distribution network, marketing and global branding activities.

While Malatya was chosen for the mass production line of the device, it is stated that engineers worked hard on battery optimization and camera sensor performance. High energy efficiency and competitive photography capabilities are targeted in daily use scenarios.

Segment Diversity and Progressive Localization Strategy

According to the planning, the domestic phone will not be limited to a single model; It will be released into the market with versions that address different user needs at the middle segment, upper segment and flagship (Premium) levels. On the software and chip side, a gradual transition plan is implemented:

Phase 1 (First Release): The device is initially launched with the optimized Android operating system in order to benefit from the wide application ecosystem.

Phase 2 (1 Year Later): After the Android experience, native operating system integration comes into play.

Phase 3 (Full Independence): In line with the planned schedule, the processor architecture of the device will be strengthened with domestic chip solutions; Transition investments between these phases are already being made.

Brand identity studies for the phone, which is intended to make a name for itself in the global market, are progressing meticulously. The 5 different name suggestions will be submitted to President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan for approval and the final brand name will be clarified after this process.
