Lufthansa expects higher kerosene costs due to the rise in oil prices

Lufthansa boss Carsten Spohr has once again promised higher kerosene costs for the airline due to increased oil prices. One would probably be happy if the last-mentioned additional costs of 1.5 billion euros remained, Spohr told journalists. The number at the end of the year will probably be higher.

The fact that Lufthansa expects an operating profit for 2026 at around the same level as the previous year is due to cuts in the main Lufthansa brand and the recent significant increase in ticket prices, said Spohr. Lufthansa had already announced in August that fuel costs would rise to 8.7 billion euros for the year as a whole. As a result of the Iran war and the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, oil prices rose by 40 to 50 percent.
