27 September Martyrs' Memorial Day in Azerbaijan

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev visited the Victory Monument with his wife Mihriban Aliyeva on the occasion of "Martyrs' Memorial Day". Aliyev presented a wreath to the monument.

Citizens and relatives of the martyrs also visited the Military Martyrs' Cemetery in the capital Baku. Citizens who laid flowers and prayed on the graves of martyrs could not hold back their tears at times.

In the statement issued by the Azerbaijani Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the occasion of "Martyrs' Memorial Day", it was stated that the 44-day war that started on September 27, 2020 resulted in the re-establishment of the country's territorial integrity and sovereignty.

In the declaration, it was stated that the greatest respect that can be shown to the memory of the martyrs is to protect the values ​​of independence, territorial integrity, sovereignty and national solidarity, as well as to strengthen permanent peace and security in the region.

EMPHASIS ON HUMAN RIGHTS FROM OMBUDSMAN ALİYEVA

In her message, Azerbaijani Ombudsman Sabina Aliyeva emphasized that the damage to the life and health of civilians and the destruction of settlements and civilian infrastructure during the war have serious humanitarian consequences.

Aliyeva listed among the main humanitarian priorities of the post-war period the restoration of human rights violated due to war and conflicts, determination of the fate of missing persons, cleaning of areas contaminated with mines and unexploded ordnance, and ensuring the safe and dignified return of people who had to leave their homelands to their lands.

Ombudsman Aliyeva stated that the progress in the peace agenda between Azerbaijan and Armenia and the developments towards the conclusion of the peace agreement are important for the future of the region, and noted that ensuring permanent peace is the responsibility of all relevant parties, including the international community.
