Donghaeng Union "Opposed to Workforce Streamlining… Must Also Verify Blacklist Damage"

(Seoul=Yonhap News) Reporter Cho Sung-heum = Samsung Electronics Labor Union Donghaeng (hereinafter Donghaeng Union), centered on the Device eXperience (DX) division in charge of Samsung Electronics' finished product business, posted an advertisement opposing workforce reductions on a billboard in Times Square, New York, USA on the 5th (local time).

The 15-second video, broadcast every hour at 35 minutes starting from 0:00 on this day, contained the message: "GREAT PRODUCTS BEGIN WITH PEOPLE. Great products begin with people. WE ARE STILL HERE. We are still here too."

Regarding this, Donghaeng Union claimed, "Under the name of AI transformation (AX), the company is fragmenting tasks, measuring efficiency, and calculating necessary personnel," adding, "If workforce streamlining reduces people under the pretext of AX, it must stop."

Furthermore, in relation to the incident where the Samsung Electronics branch of the Samsung Group Super-Enterprise Union created a 'blacklist' containing the union membership status of approximately 100,000 employees, Donghaeng Union demanded a verification of whether its union members suffered personal information leak damages.

Recently, Donghaeng Union has been arguing that the DX division was sidelined during the wage negotiation process agreed upon by Samsung Electronics labor and management, and that the compensation gap with the Device Solutions (DS) division handling the semiconductor business is excessive.

On the 21st of last month, they held a rally demanding communication with management, stating that the cause of the DX division's deteriorating profitability lies in management failure.

Starting from the 18th, they plan to hold rallies and one-person protests near the residence of Samsung Electronics Chairman Lee Jae-yong in Yongsan-gu, Seoul.
