Gwangju and Jeonnam headquarters of the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions urge ‘7-hour workdays, 4 days a week, quality jobs’

Gwangju, Jeollanam-do = Yonhap News Reporter Jeong Da-um = The Gwangju/Jeonnam headquarters of the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions (KCTU) announced on the 5th, “We need to create quality jobs with a 7-hour workday, 4 days a week.”

The union made this request by holding a 'Good Job Mega Special Zone Workers and Citizens' Rally' in front of the Gwangju City Hall of Jeonnam Gwangju Unified Special City on this day, with about 2,000 union members from the two headquarters participating.

The union emphasized, “As large-scale industrial facilities such as artificial intelligence (AI), future cars, and semiconductors are established in the region, quality jobs must be created,” and “Based on this, a structure must be established for the local community to grow together.”

The union also argued, “When a large-scale industrial complex is built, jobs must first be provided to local residents,” and “an institutional mechanism for this is also needed.”

He added, “If good jobs are created, young people will also return to the region,” and added, “Please help the central government, local governments, and political circles create a good working environment.”
