Brazil wins four medals in the Parataekwondo Muju Grand Prix

Brazilian parataekwondo won four medals (one gold, one silver and two bronze) this Friday (4) at the Muju Grand Prix (South Korea), which featured 120 athletes from 27 nationalities. Silvana Fernandes from Paraíba was champion in the under-57 kilo category when she defeated Chinese Yuji Lie 2-0 in the final.

Gustavo Antonio Ruppel from Paraná took silver in the 58 kg, after suffering a setback in the final against Azerbaijan's Sabir Zeynalov 2-0.

Brazil also added two bronzes. The first with Maria Eduarda Stumpf from Rio Grande do Sul, who lost the 57 kg semifinal to compatriot Silvana Fernandes - who would later become champion. In parataekwondo there is no competition for third place. The country's second bronze went to Ana Carolina Moura from Minas Gerais, beaten by Thailand's Awipa Phiaphan, 2-0, in the 65 kg category.

All parataekwondo competitions took place in the K44 class (athletes with physical-motor impairment that affects the upper limbs), the only one in the official Paralympic Games program. Podiums in the Muju Grand Prix distribute up to 60 points in the world ranking, which serves as a parameter for classification for the Los Angeles 2028 Paralympics.
