Budget 2027: Yaël Braun-Pivet calls for a compromise or the use of 49.3

At the end of the month, the Prime Minister, Sébastien Lecornu, will submit his budget copy to the Council of Ministers. In the absence of an extraordinary session, parliamentarians will begin examining the finance bill (PLF) at the beginning of October. The President of the National Assembly, Yaël Braun-Pivet, usually quick to leave room for “parliamentary debate”, is already calling for article 49.3 to be adopted if no compromise is found.

“Either we manage to find a compromise, or we will not succeed and the government must take its responsibilities and go through 49.3,” she defended this Thursday on France 2. The 2027 budget is already presented by some as “the most difficult of the Fifth Republic”, due to lack of a majority in the Assembly and at the dawn of a very open presidential election. Yaël Braun-Pivet, fourth person in state (behind the President of the Republic, the Prime Minister and the President of the Senate), would have “dreamed” that the session would start “much earlier”. “A compromise needs to be worked on, it doesn’t fall from the sky,” she snaps.

No special law or ordinances

The elected Renaissance, on the other hand, refuses a scenario by ordinances or a special law, which allows taxes to continue to be raised. “What I wouldn’t want is for the discussions to get bogged down for months and months, and for us to end up making orders in December,” she says. As for the special law, “it has a cost for our compatriots and public finances,” warns the political leader. The General Inspectorate of Finance (IGF) quantified the use of a special law, in a report at the end of August, at 15 billion euros. Yaël Braun-Pivet would like to prevent budgetary discussions from stagnating and accelerate on other texts such as the comprehensive law concerning violence against women and children, announced in the wake of the Lyhanna affair.
