Search for missing 2-year-old boy in Amazonas ends

The search for a 2-year-old boy who disappeared in the Descanso Community, in Amazonas, ended this Saturday (27). According to the Acre Fire Department, the child was not located after six days of searching in the region.

In total, five soldiers participated in the operation. Three of them were sent last Monday (21) and, later, two more divers who left Rio Branco reinforced the team.

The boy disappeared around 4pm last Sunday (20). The Descanso Community is located in Amazonian territory, in an area close to Sena Madureira, in the interior of Acre. The family began looking for the child with the help of residents shortly after realizing he was missing. He was seen walking down one of the local streets before disappearing.

According to the Fire Department, residents reported finding footprints close to the riverbank, which led the military to concentrate the search in the underwater area. The operation also included superficial searches in the region.

After the underwater stage, carried out by divers, the team also began surface searches in the region.

Furthermore, as soon as the child disappeared, the family reported difficulties in obtaining specialized support in the state of Amazonas.

As the community territorially belongs to Amazonas, family members were initially advised to seek help from state teams, due to administrative issues and territorial jurisdiction.

According to Acre Fire Department soldier Kennedy Emanuel Sampaio da Silva, as the community belongs to Amazonas, there is a protocol for Acre firefighters to operate outside the state's area of ​​jurisdiction.

According to him, as the family did not receive any response from the Amazonian authorities, firefighters from Acre were authorized to travel to the community and help with the search.

'What exists is that because this is a location in another jurisdiction (State) and there is a protocol. But, we were authorized and the garrison has already moved to the location', he explained.
