Munich nominated as candidate to host Summer Olympics

Munich has been nominated as a candidate city to host the Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2036, 2040 or 2044, Bavarian Prime Minister Markus Soeder announced on social media X.

The extraordinary general meeting of the German Olympic Sports Union (DOSB) takes place on Saturday in Baden-Baden. On Thursday, Berlin withdrew its bid to host the tournaments, with Cologne-Rhein-Ruhr also remaining in the selection.

"We are the German candidate in the fight to host the Olympic and Paralympic Games. This is a huge success for Bavaria and the entire Republic. Thank you for the trust of the DOSB. Now it is important to jointly convince the IOC of the international selection process. Bavaria is known and loved throughout the world - and we uniquely combine achievement and passion, competition and openness to the world, brilliance and hospitality. The Olympics, the Paralympics, and then all together at Oktoberfest - that would be great," - Zeder wrote.

Previously, the DOSB evaluation committee awarded the Berlin concept 74.64 points out of 100 and a “good” rating. The entries from Munich (87.03) and Cologne-Rhein-Ruhr (85.02) were rated "very good".
