George Russell won the Formula 1 Azerbaijan Grand Prix

British Mercedes driver George Russell (28 years old) won the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, the 15th round of the Formula 1 championship. Sport Express reports this.

Russell started from pole position and finished first, just 0.196 seconds ahead of Dutchman Max Verstappen of Red Bull. Third place went to Frenchman Isak Hajjar, also representing Red Bull. Ferrari's Charles Leclerc finished fourth.

Season leader Italian Andrea Kimi Antonelli from Mercedes took fifth place, starting from 16th position after an accident in qualifying. The top 10 also included Lewis Hamilton (Ferrari), Arvid Lindblad (Racing Bulls), Esteban Ocon, Oliver Berman (both Haas) and Carlos Sainz (Williams).

The race on the city track in Baku turned out to be difficult: seven pilots were unable to finish, and the safety car entered the track twice. Russell hit his first career Grand Slam.
