A citizen can cancel the decision to enlist due to health or the birth of children

A citizen in respect of whom a decision on conscription has been made can inform the military registration and enlistment office about the emergence of grounds for canceling the decision, for example, health problems or the birth of two or more children.

The military registration and enlistment office will send the materials for consideration to the selection committee of the constituent entity of the Russian Federation within five working days from the date of registration of the citizen’s application, and the commission may cancel the decision on conscription.

Year-round conscription takes place for the first time in 2026; conscripts are sent to their duty stations twice a year - from April 1 to July 15 and from October 1 to December 31.

A citizen called up for military service may not go to serve if he has reasons for this while he was awaiting deployment, for example, health problems or the birth of two or more children, said Colonel General Yevgeny Burdinsky, head of the Main Organizational and Mobilization Directorate of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces.

“The law stipulates that a citizen in respect of whom a decision on conscription has been made can inform the military commissariat in which he is registered for military service about the emergence of grounds for its cancellation and, if necessary, making another decision from among those provided for by the Federal Law “On Military Duty and Military Service,” Burdinsky said in an interview with the Krasnaya Zvezda newspaper.

He clarified that such circumstances include, for example, health problems or the birth of two or more children in a family.

According to Burdinsky, the military registration and enlistment office will send materials for consideration to the selection committee of the constituent entity of the Russian Federation within five working days from the date of registration of the citizen’s application. The commission already has the right to cancel such a decision and, if necessary, make another one, the general added.

Burdinsky recalled that now citizens are called to events related to conscription throughout the year. At the moment, there are already tens of thousands of conscripts waiting to be sent, and they will soon be notified of the need to appear at the military commissariat to be sent to their place of military service.
