"Today was the time to share a state of mind with the staff: look at each other, talk to each other, listen to each other as a cohesive body and move forward, waiting for justice to take its course and knowing that, as soon as possible and in the appropriate places, we will address all issues relating to safety and workplace protection with the union representatives", the minister further underlined.

"The enormous tragedy that occurred on the night of September 22nd at the Colosseum, with the death of Andrea Moretti, not only should never have happened: it must be the last" we read in a letter sent by the General Secretary of the CGIL Public Function Federico Bozzanca to Minister Giuli himself to request an urgent meeting in which to discuss the issue of safety at work in places of culture, "too often under contract or subcontract". The minister was asked to verify strict compliance with the rules and rigor in the preparation of risk assessment documents to protect workers who work in cultural venues. "We need controls on contracts and subcontracts, hiring policies and timely interventions, so that what happened does not happen again", it was reiterated.

Seven suspects and the investigations

Meanwhile, after the tragic death of the worker, the Rome Prosecutor's Office has registered seven people under investigation for manslaughter. This is a necessary action in view of the autopsy examination which will be carried out by the medical examiners of Sapienza. Investigations are also continuing to clarify what happened at the Colosseum. The magistrates of Piazzale Clodio analyzed the documentation acquired relating to the contract and the company in charge of the subcontracted works. The investigation will have to clarify, also with the help of technical consultancy, the dynamics of the accident and verify whether there were security breaches or whether it was a human error. At the time of the tragedy, other workers were present on the construction site, including the victim's brother-in-law, who had been working on the work for a few months in view of the inauguration scheduled for October, and were interviewed by the investigators.
