'Deposit' fraud operation in 4 provinces based in Çorum: 18 detained

In the operation carried out in 4 provinces centered in Çorum, 18 people who were determined to have defrauded citizens who put their vehicles for sale on websites by introducing themselves as notaries and using the 'deposit' method were caught. It was determined that the suspects were involved in qualified fraud in 55 provinces.

Çorum Provincial Police Department Public Order Branch Directorate Fraud Bureau teams started working on fraud cases targeting citizens who sell their vehicles on websites.

Allegedly, the suspects called the advertisers who wanted to sell their vehicles and said that they wanted to buy the vehicle.

It was determined that the suspects, who introduced themselves as notaries, persuaded citizens by various fraudulent methods, stating that they would send money through the so-called notary, and made them deposit money to their bank accounts under the name of 'deposit'.

FRAUD IN 55 PROVINCES

Within the scope of the investigation carried out by the police teams, it was determined that the suspects were involved in qualified fraud, also known as 'deposit fraud', in 55 provinces with this method.

The teams organized an operation to capture 18 suspects, whose identities and addresses were determined as a result of the studies, and to capture criminal elements.

SIMULTANEOUS OPERATION IN 4 PROVINCES

In the operation carried out based in Çorum, addresses determined in Mersin, Izmir and Adana were raided simultaneously.

During the operation, all 18 suspects were caught and detained. A wanted person was also caught during the searches carried out at the suspects' residences.

An unlicensed gun, a large number of cartridges, a queue machine bell thought to be used to pose as a notary, a large number of mobile phones, SIM cards and money were also seized at the addresses.

The 18 suspects caught were sent to the courthouse after their procedures at the police station.
