Rental dispute with a screwdriver between a veteran landlord and his tenant, a teacher, in Adana

In Adana, Euphrates Shield Operation veteran Erdem Durna (37) and classroom teacher tenant Ü.D. An argument broke out between them about the refund of the rent. The moments when Ü.D. attacked Durna with a screwdriver were recorded with a mobile phone camera. Complaining about her tenant, Durna said, "I gave him the money, but I am not safe."

Erdem Durna, who served as a specialist sergeant in the Euphrates Shield Operation, became a veteran after being injured in the conflict with DAESH terrorists in the Al-Bab region.

Married and father of one child, Durna, who started working in a factory after her treatment, rented the house she bought in Beyceli District of Sarıçam district.

Durna and classroom teacher Ü.D., who has been living at home for about 4 years, made a verbal agreement for an annual rent of 180 thousand liras without renewing the contract this year.

Ü.D., who paid part of the rent, stated that he would pay the remaining amount in installments.

Ü.D., who said that he bought a house about 1.5 months after the agreement, announced that he would move and asked for a refund of the rent he paid.

Allegedly, Durna said that some damages in the house needed to be repaired and that the refund could be made after the damage assessment. Thereupon, there was an argument about expenses between the parties who met at home.

ATTACK ON CAMERA

As the argument escalated, Ü.D. attacked Durna with a screwdriver. Those moments were reflected on the mobile phone camera. In the footage, it was seen that Ü.D. tried to hit Durna, saying, "I've run out of patience, give me my money, I'll punch holes in it," and Durna defended herself. Durna filed a complaint against Ü.D. after the incident. Teacher U.D. He left unanswered the questions put to him.

Explaining his experiences, Erdem Durna said, "We made an agreement with him for the 5th year. Previously, I received payments in cash when the rental periods came for 4 years. The process was proceeding in this way, in line with the conditions we determined from the beginning and which he accepted. In the 5th year, he made the payment on the day of rent in the same way. We had agreed between us that the annual rental fee would be 180 thousand TL. I said, 'Okay, you can pay it without getting into trouble.' 180 thousand TL is 100 thousand TL." He paid the TL and said he would pay the rest in installments. About 1.5 months later, he sent me a message in the evening. He said, "I will buy a house. I want the full amount of the money I sent when I leave the house."

'HE THROWN ON ME'

Stating that there was an argument between them even though there was no problem before, Durna said that her life was not safe and said, "We started arguing while we were at home and she hugged me by the collar. Then she seemed furious and pinned me on the balcony. She took a screwdriver in her hand and started threatening me. She jumped on me and put the screwdriver to my neck several times. She started accusing me by saying, 'I will kill you. You deserved death. You have now driven me crazy.' I did not resist her in any way, I did not respond. I kept my cool." "I saved myself by making a move to get out of the danger of the incident and went out of the house. I am not safe now, I am waiting for support from the authorities."

'I DID NOT DESERVE SUCH TREATMENT'

Stating that she handed over the money to him and filed a complaint so that the incident would not escalate, Durna said, "My request is for the debt issue between us to be completely eliminated. I do not want to deal with him in any way. The process has already been transferred to the judicial authority. I requested a protection order. I was injured 3 times; I was injured in my stomach, chest and arm. I paid the price for this country, I do not deserve to be treated like this."
