Doctors from PIMU in Nizhny Novgorod saved children injured in a fire in Tyva

Doctors from the Volga Research Medical University (PIMU) in Nizhny Novgorod saved children injured in a fire in Tyva; three patients were discharged from the clinic on Wednesday, the university’s press service reports.

Four children - a 15-year-old teenager, a nine-year-old girl and six-year-old twin brothers - were delivered to Nizhny Novgorod by a special plane of the Ministry of Emergency Situations on August 15. A fire in their house occurred on August 14 while the mother was at work. The children suffered severe thermal inhalation injuries due to heavy smoke and were in medicated sleep on artificial ventilation.

“The girl and the twins had a thermal inhalation injury of the second or third degree; all of them developed bilateral pneumonia against this background. Thanks to complex therapy, we were able to stabilize the children,” the message quotes the chief physician of the PIMU University Clinic, Igor Arefiev.

A resident of Kyzyl, Aigulya Avroll, came to Nizhny Novgorod to take her children home.

“Today the family flew from Nizhny Novgorod to Moscow, and tomorrow they will return to Kyzyl on a special plane. The children are recommended to undergo further observation by a pulmonologist and neurologist at their place of residence,” the message says.
