In Thailand, a nurse cut off a one-year-old patient's finger while removing an IV catheter. Mothership reports.

The incident occurred at Loengnoktha Crown Prince Hospital in Yasothon province. On September 2, the boy was admitted to the clinic with an intestinal infection. A catheter for an IV was installed in his right arm. The child recovered, and on September 11, the day of discharge, the nurse had to remove the catheter.

According to the parents, the employee of the medical institution used ordinary paper scissors instead of a special tool. He stuck the blades of the scissors between the boy's fingers, and when he tried to cut the gauze, blood gushed out from under it. It turned out that the nurse accidentally cut off a significant part of the child's index finger.

The boy was immediately sent to another hospital, where doctors reattached the finger. Then another operation was needed. However, surgeons could not guarantee that the finger would be fully functional. The administration of Loengnoktha Crown Prince Hospital suspended the nurse from work, and the boy’s family was paid four thousand baht (10 thousand rubles) and presented with a fruit basket as an apology. The child's father contacted the police.
