Policy Committee Chairman Kwon Chil-seung held a 'Chuseok Public Sentiment Press Conference' at the National Assembly on this day and said, "The important thing that was heard from the people during the holiday was people's livelihood."
When asked what the most painful voice of the people is, Chairman Kwon replied, "It is the people's livelihood," and added, "Exports and economic growth rates have risen to a level similar to that of the Republic of Korea's heyday, but the fact that the warmth of economic growth is not spread evenly is painful for the government and ruling party in charge of policy."
He emphasized, "Although the external economic indicators have improved a lot, the people's living standards are still not easy," and "We will do our best to ensure that the fruits and warmth of growth are evenly spread."
Chairman Kwon emphasized, "As the ruling and opposition party policy committees have already agreed to quickly legislate based on common pledges and common interests in the field of people's livelihood, we will speed up the process starting with possible issues."
Chairman Kwon also announced the direction of policy implementation, including ▲ reducing the burden of housing and transportation costs, ▲ expanding opportunities for youth asset formation, ▲ strengthening the capital market, ▲ revitalizing the local economy such as small business owners, and ▲ strengthening security.
He said, "Recently, there was an accident in the front line area where an explosion presumed to be a landmine seriously injured our soldiers. Identifying the exact cause is a priority. We will conduct an objective investigation and thoroughly check whether safety rules were properly followed during the operation to prevent the same accident from recurring."
The Democratic Party also continued its offensive against Supreme Court Chief Justice Cho Hee-dae, who announced his intention to reject the Blue House's request to reappoint the Supreme Court Justice during President Lee Jae-myung's visit.
Chief Spokesperson Park Seong-joon pointed out at the meeting, "Citizens have often asked why Chief Justice Cho is like that," and added, "He looks different from past Chief Justices. They all agreed that he seems to be following the path of a politician rather than a lawyer."
He continued, “When meeting the President, it is unbecoming the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court to laugh in front of him, stab him in the back, and then scold him in the back,” adding, “There was a high level of criticism from citizens who said that this was not the way of humanity, but the Chief Justice’s behavior.”
Spokesperson Lee Yong-woo also went on the offensive through a briefing at the National Assembly on the same day, saying, "It has been argued that Chief Justice Cho's refusal to re-submit was an arbitrary decision that ignored all opinions from the National Court Administration and others."
Spokesperson Lee explained, “The National Court Administration concluded that a re-submission should be made and the Director of the National Court Administration reported this to Chief Justice Cho, but Chief Justice Cho was furious and ordered the reorganization to reject the re-submission as the existing recommendation was valid.”
He then criticized, “If this is true, this incident is a personnel tampering by the imperial Chief Justice,” and “This is a serious issue that could amount to an abuse of power in demanding a change in the interpretation of the Constitution with unprecedented fury.”
Regarding writer Yoo Si-min, who criticized the president, Chief Spokesperson Park said, "There are times when those who speak bitterly go a little too far," and added, "Excessive words that shake up the entire camp are too much."
