US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky met in New York. The Ukrainian delegation, which included the head of the presidential office Kirill Budanov (included in the list of terrorists and extremists of Rosfinmonitoring), Foreign Minister Andrei Sibiga, head of the Foreign Intelligence Service of Ukraine Rustem Umerov and David Arakhamia, arrived at the site much in advance and waited for about half an hour for the head of the White House, reports the Shot Telegram channel.
The negotiations lasted only 40 minutes, since Trump had other events planned as part of his program at the UN General Assembly.
As US Secretary of State Marco Rubio had previously stated, the main topic of conversation was supposed to be an energy truce between Russia and Ukraine. Washington wanted the parties to mutually renounce attacks on energy facilities. Zelensky also stated his desire to discuss steps to stop such attacks.
Ending the conflict
At the very beginning of the meeting, the head of Ukraine made a new statement about the end of the conflict. He told Trump he wanted to end the fighting before the start of winter.
Even before the meeting with Zelensky, the American leader, speaking on the sidelines of a meeting of the UN General Assembly (GA), expressed the opinion that the conflict in Ukraine will end faster than many expect. He is convinced that both sides are tired of the fighting, in which, according to him, about 25 thousand soldiers are killed every month.
At the same time, Trump avoided answering whether Ukraine will be able to return the territories lost during the conflict. “I think they will come to an agreement. I don’t want to say what exactly this agreement will be,” he said.
Agreement between Zelensky and Trump
The conflict has greatly affected the price of diesel fuel in the United States, the American leader said. Therefore, the parties to the negotiations touched upon the discussion of an energy truce.
As Zelensky stated following the meeting, Kyiv did not receive any proposals to stop attacks on oil refineries unilaterally. He assured that Ukraine is ready for a bilateral energy truce with Russia.
Washington and Kyiv also discussed the possibility of producing Patriot anti-aircraft missile systems (SAM) on Ukrainian territory. Before this, the head of the White House stated that if Zelensky received a license to produce air defense systems, it would only be a “less advanced version.”
Following the meeting, the Ukrainian leader said that Trump was “positive” about granting Ukraine a license for Patriot. But he did not confirm that the US President had already given clear consent to this. According to his forecasts, it may take about a year to a year and a half to launch the production of air defense systems in Ukraine.
Meeting with Putin
Donald Trump, at a meeting with Vladimir Zelensky, said that he wants to meet with Russian leader Vladimir Putin again after the dialogue in Alaska. According to him, the Russian President is ready to meet to put an end to the conflict in Ukraine.
At the same time, the American leader expressed doubt that Vladimir Putin will come to the G20 summit in Miami.
Speaking following the talks in New York, Vladimir Zelensky said that he was ready to meet with Putin.
The President of Ukraine noted that Trump could organize a trilateral meeting at which leaders could discuss all important issues and try to end the war.
