Garlasco crime, waiting for the closure of the new investigations: the only suspect is Andrea Sempio

Today, Monday 28 September, the closure of the investigations is expected as part of the new investigation into the Garlasco crime. The new suspect for the murder of Chiara Poggi, which occurred on 13 August 2007, is Andrea Sempio: the Pavia Prosecutor's Office will have to notify the defense of the 38-year-old, a friend of the victim's brother, a second notice of closure of investigations for aggravated murder, after that of 8 May, and the request for indictment could arrive. Alberto Stasi, Chiara Poggi's boyfriend at the time, was sentenced to 16 years in prison for the murder: in June Stasi obtained probationary custody from social services.

The closure of the new investigations

Today, therefore, the Pavia Prosecutor's Office should file the notice of conclusion of the investigations, unchanged compared to the one presented in May but with the new consultations ordered by the prosecutors attached. The investigators, in fact, had 18 months available to carry out all the additional investigations and the deadline for completing the investigation, also indicated by the prosecutor Fabio Napoleone in a note at the end of May, is 28 September.

Sempio's position

The defenders of Andrea Sempio, now the only suspect for the murder of Chiara Poggi, await the filing of the notice of conclusion of the investigation. “We can only wait to read the new evidence from the Prosecutor's Office, we had presented our counterarguments on the previous ones but we can only wait to read what has been filed", said Liborio Cataliotti, one of the 38-year-old's lawyers.

The Stasi position

Meanwhile, another crucial step could arrive in the next few hours: a request for review of the trial could be presented by the defense of Alberto Stasi, Chiara Poggi's then boyfriend, definitively convicted for the murder and now on early release. Stasi's defenders, Giada Bocellari and Antonio De Rnsis, have been working on this request for some time, in parallel with the investigations into Sempio, and it could be filed after this conclusion of the investigations. We are also waiting to understand whether there will be any initiatives from the Milan Attorney General's Office in this regard.
