Öcalan's "Alliance" Statement from the DEM Party İmralı Delegation

People's Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) İmralı Delegation members Pervin Buldan, Mithat Sancar and Özgür Faik Erol met with the detained terrorist organization PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan on İmralı Island on September 13.

According to Mezopotamya Agency, DEM Party officials stated that they shared a new message to clarify the issue after Abdullah Öcalan's comparison of the "Yavuz Sultan Selim - İdris-i Bitlisi alliance", referring to the Ottoman Empire period, which he allegedly made within the scope of the "process", attracted great reactions.

Accordingly, Öcalan used the following expressions in his message:

"Remembering Idris-i Bitlisi's alliance between the Sunni emirates and the Ottomans is not to revive it as it was, with all its shortcomings. On the contrary, it means to update the understanding of the alliance, which was established in the past for the benefit of the emirs and rulers, in line with the interests of the people and beliefs today. Of course, the historical memory of the Alevis and their concerns arising from this need to be taken seriously. The aim here is not to dissolve Alevism within Sunnism, but to integrate the Kurds and Alevis with their own identities and originalities into this new democratic society." "What is in question is the alliance of the people, not the rulers. The aim is the alliance of equality and freedom, not sovereignty. The Alevi Renaissance is one of the most important pillars of this common democratic future."

THAT 'PROPOSAL' DRAW HARD REACTION

Within the scope of the process carried out by the government under the name of "Terror-Free Turkey", the analogy of "Yavuz Sultan Selim - İdris-i Bitlisi alliance", allegedly suggested by the terrorist organization PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan, caused reactions, and 53 names published the "Alevi Intellectuals Declaration" against this proposal.
