Two serious accidents at work.

A Tunisian worker who is said to be 55 years old, father of a family, died due to the burns he suffered and another 29 years old, of Bangladeshi origin, who will be transferred from the regional hospital of Ancona to the major burns center in Pisa in very serious conditions. This is the tragic outcome of an accident at work which occurred late yesterday evening in the Fincantieri factory in Ancona. Around 10.15pm the two workers, employed in a contracting company, were hit by a flame while working on a ship inside a shed.

The dynamics of the accident are still being reconstructed by Polmare. The Fiom, Fim and Uilm unions, protesting in front of the plant, have proclaimed an eight-hour strike.

The deceased worker, father of a family, resident in Ancona according to initial information, had arrived at the emergency room charred and in already desperate conditions. The other injured worker, a father of two children, who also arrived at the emergency room in very serious conditions due to burns in various parts of his body, was assisted in the Anesthesia and Resuscitation Clinic of the University Hospital of Ancona but was transferred to the Major Burns Center in Pisa.

The firefighters and police officers also intervened on site last night. Investigations are also underway by the Scientific Police to ascertain what happened and in particular the cause of the lethal blaze, perhaps triggered by a spark during cutting with a torch and acetylene.

Worker in the Milan area falls from an attic and dies

A 48-year-old worker died while emptying the attic of a rural building in a hamlet of Robecco sul Naviglio (Milan). The man apparently fell from a height of about eight metres. The other worker who together with the victim was taking part in the emptying operations was unharmed. On site, together with the 118 personnel, the firefighters of Legnano and Abbiategrasso, who took steps to make the area safe. The carabinieri and local police are investigating the dynamics of the accident.
