Alonso's double blast helps Orioles beat Yankees, American League RBI title record possible

[Sports Center/Comprehensive Report] The Yankees and Orioles played a doubleheader today and each won one victory. Orioles star slugger "Polar Bear" Pete Alonso currently leads the American League's batting double crown and is expected to challenge the record for the first time in history.

The Orioles had a blast in the first game of the midday game, putting on a 4-homer fireworks show in a single game. Dylan Beavers hit a grand slam in the 4th inning to lay the foundation for victory. Jeremiah Jackson ran out of the game and hit a home run in the 6th inning. The Orioles defeated the Yankees 10-2 in the end, ending their 4th consecutive victory.

Alonso had a double game, 3 hits, and 3 RBIs. He currently leads the American League in home runs with 43 home runs, and ranks second in the Majors and first in the American League with 113 RBIs, second only to NL Cardinals slugger Alec Burleson's 115 RBIs.

Alonso won the National League RBI title in 2022. Since RBIs were officially included in statistics in 1920, no player has ever won the American League and National League RBI titles in his career. Alonso is expected to challenge this first feat this season. In addition, Alonso accumulated 16 home runs against the Yankees in his career, setting a record for the most home runs against the Yankees in the first 43 games of his career.

Game 2 of the Yankees doubleheader relied on Ryan McMahon's long hit to lead the way. He scored 5 runs in the 6th and 7th innings. Although the Orioles recovered 2 runs in the 9th, they were still unable to reverse the situation and lost 3:6, missing their 5th consecutive victory.
