Soviet and Russian cinematographer Boris Timkovsky has died

At the age of 91, the Soviet and Russian cinematographer, director and Honored Cultural Worker of Russia Boris Timkovsky died. This was reported by the press service of the St. Petersburg branch of the Union of Cinematographers of Russia.

Timkovsky was educated at the camera department of VGIK. From 1958 to 1995, he worked as a director of photography at Lenfilm, participating in film production both in the USSR and Russia, and abroad - in particular, in Sweden, the Netherlands, Austria and France.

During his career, Timkovsky acted as director of photography in more than 20 films. Among them are “The Personal Life of Valentin Kuzyaev”, “The White Queen’s Move” and “The Truth of Lieutenant Klimov”. For his work on the last film in 1983, he was awarded the Silver Medal named after A.P. Dovzhenko.

In addition to camera work, Timkovsky was involved in directing. Among the paintings he created are “Berlin Mosaic” (2002), “24 Hours in St. Petersburg” (2004), “Faces of Stockholm” (2008) and “New Paris” (2010). Until 2016, Boris Timkovsky taught at the St. Petersburg State Institute of Film and Television, where he held the position of associate professor in the department of cinematography and taught a course for future filmmakers.
