The Russian Ambassador to Canada accused Ottawa of confrontational policies

Russian Ambassador to Ottawa Oleg Stepanov said that the Canadian government maintains a policy of confrontation in relations with Russia.

According to Stepanov, the policies of Prime Minister Mark Carney's cabinet are strongly anti-Russian and do not meet Canada's national interests.

Stepanov stressed that political aggression against Russia does not strengthen Canada's security.

The government of Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney maintains a course of confrontation in relations with Russia, which does not meet the country’s national interests and does not contribute to strengthening its security, Russian Ambassador to Ottawa Oleg Stepanov said in an interview with RIA Novosti.

“The policy of Prime Minister Mark Carney’s cabinet is characterized by a strong anti-Russian charge. From the point of view of real foreign policy and the national interests of Canada, it is illogical, since it cannot bring anything good to the “country of the maple leaf”. As under (former Prime Minister - ed.) Justin Trudeau, Russia is being created as an enemy. The establishment’s rhetoric is very confrontational,” Stepanov said.

According to the Russian diplomat, Moscow has repeatedly drawn attention to the fact that political aggression against Russia - both as a neighbor and as a nuclear power - is short-sighted and, “to put it mildly, does not strengthen Canada’s security.”
